Another year, another successful Thanksgiving luncheon!! Now, I know, I said I was resigned from the Party Planning Committee. HOWEVER. Laura was out of town and Roy pretty much said it was my show to run how I wanted. So I did. Because, damn it, Thanksgiving is MY holiday.

We deep fried the hell out of this sucker )

New Thanksgiving PWT tonight. Right now I'm going to finish eating my dessert of fudge and cranberries. YUM-O.

Me: *is explaining the olive penguins I made for lunch*
Colin: Olives and cream cheese? Ick.
Me: When you see how cute they are even your cold, dead heart will giggle at the "awww" factor.
Colin: Cold, dead heart? Don't hold back, Andie.

****

Tim: Have you heard through the grapevine that we're being released at 2pm?
Me: Honey, I AM the grapevine. *snaps over head*

****

Lucas: I won't be sad if you blow the building up.
Me: Why would I blow the building up right before a long weekend? If I'm going to blow the building up it'll be on a Monday.
Lucas: This is why you're management material. You're always thinking.

Adventures in deep frying a turkey countdown initiated. T-minus two hours to deliciousness.

I'm trying to decide what to make for the Work Family Thanksgiving tomorrow (and what really makes it a day to give thanks? NO LAURA.) and I'm torn between making my traditional Crazy 8 Salad (8 small granny smith apples, 8 Snickers bars, 8 ounces of sour cream, 8 ounces of Cool Whip) or these:

OLIVES THAT LOOK LIKE PENGUINS. I can't even describe how cute they are!! Kristine made them for a party last year and said they were a big hit. I can imagine! They're adorable!

18 jumbo black olives, pitted
8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
18 small black olives
1 carrot
  • Cut a slit from top to bottom, lengthwise, into the side of each jumbo olive.
  • Pipe about 1 teaspoon of cream cheese into each olive (Kristine used a plastic baggie with a hole cut in the corner as her pippetter).
  • Slice the carrot into eighteen 1/4 inch thick rounds; cut a small notch out of each carrot slice to form feet. Save the cut out piece and press into center of small olive to form the beak.
  • Set a big olive, large hole side down, onto a carrot slice.
  • Set a small olive onto the large olive, adjusting so that the beak, cream cheese chest and notch in the carrot slice line up. Secure with a toothpick.

You know what would be awesome? You all know Jem and the Holograms, right? And the Glitter and Gold episode?

Yeah, Glee should TOTALLY do that! Like, when they released the two versions of Kurt/Rachel's "Defying Gravity". They could sell them each for .99 cents and at the end of the week whoever sold the most singles would win the solo on the show! It's involving your audience!! I like it.

I don't feel like working today so I'm watching Jem episodes on YouTube. What? That is the best soap opera EVER.

I am currently listening to Sean Patrick Flanery's CD, Johnson Was A Snowball Who Loved The Beach. Am I going to be defriended if I admit I like it? The whole album is totally quirky and funk-tastic. I think "Come In My Mind" is my favorite, but really, they're all toe-tappy.

Jess: If I give you the p-card can you buy a bird?
Me: Ummmm, you think I can do this? I'm not really the "buy meat" girl.
Jess: Of course!
Me: Your belief makes me believe!
Gary: Wait...what?
Jess/Me: What?
Gary: You're buying a bird? For the office?
Me: Yes, Gary, we're buying a cockatoo named Pete to improve morale.
Jess: Well, until we deep fry the sucker.
Gary: You're...what?
Me: A TURKEY, GARY. WE ARE BUYING A TURKEY.
Gary: That makes WAY more sense!

I am less puffy today, but I am wearing my glasses which then sparks the "Grandma fed you chamomile tea again, didn't she?" response. Sometimes it's hilarious how well we know one another.

I'm still feeling a bit off, so at Gran's today I had some orange pekoe tea with lunch. Now, I know I'm allergic to chamomile tea, but I've never had trouble with any other flavor. HA!

It should come as no surprise to you that I took a picture. )

In other news, I'm rewatching The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles because THIS IS WHAT I DO WHEN I FALL BACK INTO THE SHAME SPIRAL OF OBSESSION. *face palm* See, Sean Patrick Flanery and I go back. WAAAAAY back. I sat through Powder for him! In the THEATER. He was the best thing about Ten Inch Hero for me. (Sorry fangirls, Jensen in the mowhawk didn't really do it for me) and I was pissed when he didn't show up to Wizard World a couple of years back. I wanted him to sign my Indiana Jones trading cards. YES, I HAD THE TRADING CARDS, I DO REMEMBER TELLING YOU I AM CRAZY OBSESSIVE.

Also, I've figured out why SPF was so puffy in Boondock Saints II. )

Indy's currently making it with the Mata Hari. He's like, 20 in this so the perving on his skinny naked body is a little naughty, but WHATEVERCAKES HAVE YOU MET ZAC EFRON?

Weirdly, what I remember most about watching the series as a kid was sitting with my Dad and listening to his esoteric stories about the different historical events. My dad is a nut for history, and for Indiana Jones, so this was something he was really into. I think I'm enjoying the series more this time around. I was 14 the last time I watched these, so I was actually more interested in the Corey Carrier Indy stories then the SPF ones. Actually, no, I was more interested in their floppy, shiny, awesome hair. *L*

What I really love about this series is that Indy isn't a whip-wielding badass that grows up to be Harrison Ford. Not yet. He whines and makes bad choices but you can see an occasional glimmer of the man he's going to become.

For me, SPN as a source material is ridiculously intimidating. There are five seasons worth of episodes to choose from and for me it's just TOO MUCH choice. So, I decided (since I've been wanting to try and vid SPN for awhile) that I'd keep my scope small and manageable. One episode, one song, one fanvid.

Song: God's Gonna Cut You Down (Johnny Cash)
SPN Episode: 05.10 "Abandon All Hope"
This one's for [info]alphabet26 for giving me the song. :)
